Friday, October 8, 1:00 – 2:00 pm. Cranach to Canaletto: Masterpieces from the Bemberg Foundation, a docent-led Zoom tour from the San Diego Museum of Art. Tour a selection of stunning Old Master paintings from the more than seventy-five works presented. These works, exemplifying themes of portraiture, landscape, mythology, and domestic environments (which is subdivided into “Outdoor Pursuits” and “Interiors and Intrigue”), reflect the unique personal taste of the connoisseur who assembled this remarkable private collection, Georges Bemberg.
Built by Argentina-born French collector and Harvard-trained scholar, Georges Bemberg, the collection ranges from Venetian portraits and view paintings to masterworks of the German and French Renaissance. Organized by the Bemberg Foundation, based at the historic Hôtel d’Assézat in Toulouse, the exhibition features over 75 works produced between about 1500 and 1800. Artists represented in the Foundation’s collection include the Venetian painters Tintoretto, Titian, Veronese, Canaletto, Tiepolo and Longhi; French artists Clouet, Nattier, Boucher, and Vigée-Lebrun; and Flemish and Dutch painters Brueghel, Van Goyen, and Van Dyck. Five Lucas Cranach paintings attest to Bemberg’s appreciation of this seminal figure of the German Renaissance.
This ZOOM event is a collaboration between Little Falls Village and Friendship Heights Neighbors Network.
