970: WASHINGTON: THEN AND NOW IN PICTURES
July 11-14, 9:45 AM - 11:15 AM
Online Lecture
This course consists of "then and now" photos and other images of broad swaths of Washington, DC, along with brief descriptions and commentary about the changing scenes. It is by no means a comprehensive look at DC's history and cityscape, instead mainly providing glimpses of "lost Washington"—for better or worse—some within the memory of long-time residents. No reading—just a virtual visual stroll down memory lane. (Note: a few photos are drawn from the SGL's "well-worn" course, Off the Beaten Path in the DC Area, but viewed through a different lens, so to speak).
Study Group Leader:
Ralph Buglass has led his self-described "gut course" Off the Beaten Path for numerous semesters, along with "more academic" offerings. A frequent speaker for Montgomery History in neighboring Maryland, he has a BA in American history from Cornell and an MA in journalism from American University.
