Michael Wehr • Board President

Mike Wehr and his wife Nancy have been members of Little Falls Village since shortly after the Village started and believe an ‘aging in place’ alternative is vitally important for seniors. Mike’s professional career focused on food safety, working for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in international food safety policy, with a Washington, D.C. food safety consultancy organization, and with the State of Oregon as the Administrator of the Oregon Department of Agriculture’s Laboratory Services Division. Over the years Mike has been active in many professional organizations, including serving as president of AOAC International (a scientific organization focused on laboratory operations) and in community service organizations including neighborhood associations, civic committees, and Rotary International club boards. Mike and Nancy lived in Wood Acres for almost 30 years and recently moved to Sumner Village.

Susan Harding • Vice President

Susan Harding is committed to the village movement, first joining Little Falls Village as a volunteer upon its founding in 2013. Susan brings extensive professional and nonprofit experience to her role as Vice President. A resident of Sumner Village condominiums for more than 20 years, Susan has served as the treasurer of the Sumner Village Community Association for six of those years. She also has served on several non-profit boards, including North American Riding for the Handicapped, Horses & Human Research Foundation, US Hunter-Jumper Association and the Kentucky Horse Park Museum of the Horse. After graduating from Northwestern University, Susan began her business career at the Congressional Research Service in Washington D.C. and McKinsey & Co. in London. Upon earning an MBA from Harvard University, Susan joined Newsweek Magazine in New York City. Continuing her career in magazines, she moved to Maryland in 1989 to manage a small company publishing horse magazines.

Tom Hutton • Treasurer

Prior to joining the Little Falls Village Board, Tom served as Executive Director and Board Chair for a nonprofit that helps middle-aged people find employment. He also has administered the finances, human resources, and property of a religious institution. In prior years. Tom worked on environmental and commercial matters for a major law firm. Following that, he managed an arbitration program and served as the CIO at a financial regulatory agency. Tom grew up in southern Illinois and moved to Washington, D.C. in 1976. He has lived in Bethesda since 1998. Tom speaks, to various degrees, French, Russian, German, Spanish, and bits of other languages, and enjoys music, bicycling, and travel.

Shoaleh Alai • Board Member

Shoaleh Alai has worked in sales and marketing for more than 20 years, most recently for nearly 12 years as the director of sales for a large, assisted living/memory care community in Bethesda. She now works with Corewood Care to help seniors with homecare, Care Management, and concierge companion services. She has been a board member at the Women's Board of the American Heart Association, Greater Washington Region since 2011.

Erin Pickerell • Board Member

Erin Pickrell grew up watching her mother make a difference in Delaware communities, owning and operating a home care franchise as well as starting the Greater Lewes Community Village. Erin volunteered in many capacities, mostly helping with the Christmas House Tour and currently likes to help as a volunteer for several Montgomery County Villages. She also is involved in the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rotary Club and serves as the club’s service chair on the Board of Directors. After graduating from Lafayette College, she worked with small nonprofits for 10 years, including years in Costa Rica and the remaining time in DC. After seven years living in Columbia Heights, she now lives in Kensington, Maryland with her husband, young son, dog and two cats.

Karen Riibner • Board Member

Karen Riibner is pleased to be serving a second time on the Board of Little Falls Village (LFV). Karen brings more than 20 years of experience as a Clinical Social Worker and Supervisor licensed and practicing psychotherapy in Maryland, DC, and Virginia. She was past Director of the Montgomery County Crisis Center, which was one of the highlights of her lengthy County career. Outside of her professional work, Karen is a former pastry chef who enjoys baking, cooking vegetable forward meals, traveling, downhill skiing, and new adventures. She is the proud mother of two adult daughters and is happily dating fellow LFV member Carmen Petruzzi (ask her about it!). Karen is a dedicated advocate for cancer research and since 2022 has so far participated in Team for Cures (benefitting Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation) event rides annually through Oregon, California Wine Country, Death Valley, as well as Moving Mountains for Multiple Myeloma in Sweden. She looks forward to continuing to support and guide the exemplary work of Little Falls Village.

Sandy Roy • Board Member

Sandy Roy has spent much of her life overseas—first as an Army brat in Europe, then as the spouse of an American Foreign Service officer in Cold War Moscow and across Asia. She studied economics at Vassar College and earned a master’s degree in linguistics from American University. When diplomatic postings ended her career as a systems analyst in Washington, DC think tanks, Sandy turned her focus to connecting international communities with the culture, art, history, and lesser-known places of the countries she called home. Her work included helping organize the Beijing International Society; editing Sawaddi, a journal on Thai art and culture; serving as editor-in-chief of the Singapore American, Singapore’s second-largest English-language newspaper; contributing to a book on Jakarta’s hidden treasures; serving on local nonprofit boards organizing care for those in need; and teaching English to graduate students at Thailand’s Chulalongkorn University.

Anne Quinlan • Board Member

Anne Quinlan brings a deep commitment to community, collaboration, and service to the Little Falls Village Board. Anne moved to the Bannockburn neighborhood in 1990 after returning from assignments in Greece and Germany. She is a longtime member of Bannockburn Neighbors Assisting Neighbors (NAN), Little Falls Village’s sister village to the North bound by River and Goldsboro Roads, MacArthur Boulevard and Wilson Lane. She took over the job of president in 2023 after the deaths of Miriam Kelty and Steve Baldwin. Anne has experienced firsthand the strength of the village model and the impact of neighbors helping neighbors and is dedicated to fostering its continuation and strengthening its foundation. An active environmental steward with some local river clean-up efforts as well as some Weed Warrior activities, Anne is excited to strengthen the growing partnership between LFV and NAN.

Doran Flowers • Executive Director

Doran Flowers brings a breadth of nonprofit, transactional legal expertise, and volunteer experience to his role as Executive Director of Little Falls Village since the summer of 2022. Through his service as President of Glen Echo Heights Citizens’ Association, in leadership roles at River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation, co-leader of Girl Scout Troop 3474, coach of a Montgomery County recreational team, and longtime volunteer with the Village, Doran has developed deep connections within the community. His unique combination of experiences, skills, and relationships ensure the Village continues to thrive. A graduate of Georgetown Law, Doran spent 20 years as a board member/staff of the District of Columbia educational nonprofit Turning the Page.

Margaret Warker • Marketing & Operations Director

Having managed the care of her own aging family members, Margaret Warker has a deep commitment to serving seniors. Margaret arranges in-person and virtual programs for the Village in partnership with other organizations, including Little Falls Library. A Bethesda native, she has held various positions at the Biblical Archaeology Society in Washington, D.C., including overseeing educational programs, marketing, and outreach. Her other professional experience in the non-profit and government sectors includes positions at the National Institutes of Health and at Youth for Understanding USA.

Ivy Brown • Member & Volunteer Coordinator

Ivy Brown worked for 13 years as Travel Specialist at C-SPAN TV on Capitol Hill, providing travel and meeting logistics for 350 employees, navigating through three presidential election cycles, six political conventions, two C-SPAN School Bus cross county tours, and numerous documentaries. She took several years off to raise her two now-grown sons. From Beverly Hills, Calif., Ivy has lived in the DMV since 1990. Previously, she has resided in London, Paris, The Hague and Israel, and speaks French, Italian and Dutch. In her free time, Ivy enjoys cooking and traveling with her family.

Roopa Rangnath • Special Project Coordinator

Roopa Rangnath is a versatile business professional with an MBA from Johns Hopkins University and a strong foundation in operations, marketing analysis and recruitment. She has supported both global organizations and startups, bringing a strategic mindset and hands-on approach to improving performance. After taking time off to raise her two children, Roopa returned to the workforce with renewed focus and purpose. Known for her strong communication skills and ability to build lasting relationships, she thrives in fast-paced, collaborative environments and remains actively involved in community service and local leadership.
