Two-Part Discussion on Local Parks via Zoom.
Overview of Parks in Washington, DC & Surrounding Counties, The Washington, DC Area Ecosystem. Part 1: Friday, June 19, 2:00–3:30 pm. RSVP TO LFV WITH PARKS IN SUBJECT.
Focus on Glover Archbold Park (adjacent to Georgetown University) Part 2: Friday, June 26 @ 2:00–3:30 pm.
The speaker is Edd Barrows. At Georgetown University, Edd is currently the Director of the Entomology and Biodiversity Laboratory and is the former Director of the Center for the Environment and Environmental Education. His current research laboratory, the Laboratory of Entomology and Biodiversity, is in the Heyden Observatory of Georgetown University. Professor Barrows is the author of Animal Behavior Desk Reference; Nature, Gardens, & Georgetown, and his newest book, The Washington, D.C. Area Ecosystem, along with scores of scientific papers. Professor Barrows leads research into biodiversity, alien species and the ecology of arthropods in areas around the DMV that includes Dyke Marsh Preserve of the National Park George Washington Memorial Parkway. He has shared his research with the Botanical Society of Washington’s Biodiversity Database of the Washington, D.C., Area (BDWA) and the Entomological Society of Washington, where he was former president. Professor Barrows has a been a biological consultant for the Air National Guard and the National Geographic Society.
The PART 1 Presentation was originally created for Kyrgyzstanis at the request of the U.S. Department of State and also used for classes at Georgetown University. Edd is interested in hearing your comments about the parks to help us all appreciate and understand them better. PART 2 is primarily about Glover Archbold Park, adjacent to Georgetown University. This is one of the finger parks of Rock Creek Park, and Foundry Branch intermittently flows through this narrow 2.6-mile-long park. The discussion will feature many local organisms.
